New Kitchen Line From Ikea

Here is some pics of the Ikea booths, at  the Interior Design Show in Toronto.  Its showcasing  Ikea's  new kitchen line Sektion.  You can achieve an amazing looking kitchen for a lower price point, if you are really handy or you hire a contractor to install it for you.  Everyone who has ever put anything together from Ikea knows how difficult it can be!  I espiecally love the blue and grey colour combo, it has my mind churning with possibilities.

Kids Art Wall

Here is a cute and simple way, to display kids art work in their room or anywhere in the house really. The great thing is you can change it up as often as you like, with no damage to your paint. We selected the pieces of art we wanted, roughly laid them out on the floor, and taped them up with fabric tape.  The best part was seeing my daughters face when she saw all her artwork on display.

Looking for Inspiration: Soothing Greys

I am working on a living room design, for a client.  The room is mostly used for watching television and movies, and she wanted grey and pinks.  Something soft and soothing but not too girly.  So I am pulling some inspirational pictures to get the creative ball rolling.  I am thinking shades of grey with soft pastel pink accents.

Here is our inspiration board:

One Room Challenge Linking Event Week 5

I was so pumped when my rug arrived, only to be disappointed that it is 11 inches too big!!! Its beautiful, and would have been amazing against the black stair case but its too big.  To say I am disappointed is an understatement!!   Clearly they are not worried about putting exact measurements on their listings.
I am shipping it back, and wondering what the heck I am going to do.  I am going to check
 around my area and see what I can find.  I do have a dash and albert black and white runner that would work, not exactly my vision for the room, but could work.
Here is my original plan
Then it evolved to this.
This is the pattern of the rug I already own, so it could work if nothing else turns up.
  I am working away on the other elements of the room and will share all next week.

One Room Challenge Week Four

It is week four already on the One Room Challenge Linking Event, and I have made a bit more progress this week.  Not as much as I was planning on, but it is improving.

I put the table together, and I am really happy with how it turned out.  I still need to purchase some accessories to style it.  I have in mind some baskets underneath, a beautiful tray, and artwork.

Both from Target.

I also started  hanging mirrors that are going up the stairway.  It has a keyhole window and I thought a collection of mirrors would add interest and draw your eye up to it.  I still need to add a few more maybe smaller scale mirrors to round out the collection.

Items to finish
* purchase accessories
* finish wall of mirrors
* complete gallery wall
* hang light
* pray for rug to be delivered on time.

One Room Challenge Linking Event Week Three

It is week three of the One Room Challenge Linking event.  If you would like to check out my plans and process for my front hall for weeks one and weeks two.  I have made some progress, and some purchases.  My design is evolving as I go, since I hadn't sourced or planned much of anything before the challenge began.  I saw the event right before it started and thought it would be fun.

I ordered this rug off eBay and I am praying that it will arrive on time!
Here is how my new purchases will look all together.

 I have changed my mind with the floating credenza, instead I am going to do this narrow writing desk.  I feel like  the black will balance out the black of the staircase.

I still need to work on the gallery wall and collect vintage mirrors for the staircase wall, finish painting, source accessories, put together the desk........and lots more.  I'm not worried as long as I get the rug, the rest I can get done.

Weekly Wishes # 2

Happy Thanksgiving  to my fellow Canadians,  I am enjoying a quiet day at home with my family today.  I thought I would post my weekly wishes linkup that Melyssa from The Nectar Collective hosts.

Here is the recap of last weeks goals.

* Try to write three blog posts this week, and luckily this counts as one. Only got two done, but that's  better then none

* Work on my front hall for this weeks post on the One Room Challenge. Paint walls, and trim white, doors black and start working on  the stairs.

* Spend some quality time working on my new website and blog design. Somewhat accomplished this one.

* Work out every morning and eat more mindfully all week.

One Room Challenge Week 2

I am well on my way into implementing my design for the one room challenge linking event.  I have started on painting and sourcing some products for my front hall.  Here is my original plan.

Here is how my front hall looked before.

 I have started painting, keep in mind that this is only one coat on most of the surfaces and its a horrible picture taken at night!  Even so,  it is already looking much improved.

I am having a hard time sourcing a rug, I have been outbid a ton of times for some killim rugs on eBay, but I feel like it may be a blessing in disguse since I am now considering something slightly different.

  I am now leaning towards this rug, I feel like it would look amazing up against the black staircase.  I would love any thoughts on this matter.

I found this amazing light on etsy, I just have to make sure that it can be delivered in time for the reveal.

I still have to figure out the cabinet, I am also considering a vintage dresser or credenza.  My thought process is that if I did a smaller dresser I could add in a chair or a bench.  Which means some fun fabric.

 I will keep up all the hard work, and hopefully I will have lots of progress for next week.

Weekly Wishes #1

The Nectar Collective

I came across The Nectar Collective blog and Melyssa's series Weekly Wishes.  I am thinking this could be a good way  for me to hold myself accountable to crossing off some of  my weekly goals.  Here are a few things I would love to tackle this week.

* Try to write three blog posts this week, and luckily this counts as one.

* Work on my front hall for this weeks post on the One Room Challenge. Paint walls, and trim white, doors black and start working on  the stairs.

* Spend some quality time working on my new website and blog design.

* Work out every morning and eat more mindfully all week.

Well there you have it, my first Weekly Wishes.

One room challenge linking event

So it seems I forgot how to blog, but I'm back and ready to start again.  What better way to start, then  to  participate in the One Room Challenge linking event.  I have always followed this event and I love that this year anyone can have a chance to join.  I picked my front hall, since I need to get it done, and this is as a good push as any to get me going.

Here is the hideous before pic, the colour is the previous owners choice.  I had starting planning this out awhile ago so of course I have changed my mind a couple of times.  Which is what happens when you don't get right to it.

My new plan is for a more modern light instead of a lantern style, and add a floating credenza to the wall where I was originally going to place a mirror.

Instead of a painted stair runner, I am going to paint the whole area black.  I think it will have a more sophisticated look then the painted runner.

Here are some halls that I have drawn inspiration from.

Here is my rough plan for my front hall.

Scope of work to be done

Paint the walls BM Cloud White
* Paint the stairs black considering BM Black Onyx
* Paint all doors high gloss black
* Source rug, light, credenza
* Create a gallery wall using family photos
* Style and accessorize

I am excited to get going on this project and to check out  each week what everyone else is designing along the way.

The Importance Of Proper Furniture Scale

I am laying out the floor plan for my daughters bedroom.  It is a perfect example of how important the correct furniture scale is.  The previous owners had really small scaled furniture in the room, and it gave the impression that the room was much smaller than it is.

And this is how I am laying out the room, and it feels much more spacious and inviting the before.

Currently Obsessed // Amber Interiors Powder Room Makeover

I am in love with this powder room makeover that Amber Lewis just posted about.  You can read all about it in her words here.
Now I would love to use the above wallpaper, but it is a little out of my budget so here are a few papers that would give you a similar look for less.
